The English version of "Making Tatsuke" is available now!
"Tatsuke" is a farm work pants that we learned from grandmothers over 80 years old in the Itoshiro area of Gifu, Japan.
In the past, Japan's fabric width was around 30-35 cm, which makes it easy to make Japan's traditional clothes.
Our wisdom grandmothers found a way to use the fabrics perfectly to make the pants without fabric waste, and cut straight only.
Itoshiro yohinten's owner Hirano make it into a book, for us to make it easily. And hoping the wisdom will be known for more people.
You can make the pants with the sewing machine or hand sewing.
Just for reference, our staff make it with a sewing machine and add the top stitch with sashiko after. (You can check it in the picture.)
Making Tatsuke didn't include any paper templates, you can mark the lines on the fabric directly. And it has detailed instructions with illustrations which are easy to understand. (Including how to adjust the size.)

Production Story from Itoshiro yohinten
Many people are surprised to learn that we are revealing in detail how we make the clothes we primarily produce and sell at Itoshiro Clothing Store. We decided to reveal how we make our clothes because we want more people to know how wonderful "Tatsuke" is.
We were also generously taught by local grandmothers. We would like to share this knowledge with many people, and share the surprise and joy of making clothes, and the pleasure of wearing clothes that you made yourself.
